Dr. Simon Goddek posted information in an X (formerly Twitter) post about the "hateful eight", which are:
- Sunflower oil
- Soybean oil
- Cottonseed oil
- Safflower oil
- Corn oil
- Rice bran oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Canola oil
These eight toxic vegetable oils are overly processed into substances that can hardly be considered food.
Toxic Vegetable Oils Linked to Premature Death
Dr. Goddek, a PhD scientist in biotechnology and a science journalist, lists seven reasons why these vegetable oils should never be consumed:
1) Vegetable oils are unnaturally extracted and processed
Coconut and olive oil are extracted through simple pressing, but seed oils like canola, soybean, and corn are extracted with heat and toxic chemical solvents such as petroleum, which oxidize and are converted into trans fats.
2) Vegetable Oils Are Really Industrial Seed Oils
The accurate description for these oils is "industrial seed oils." Before 1900, these oils would never be considered food and eaten. Today, the average consumption of these oils is 70 pounds per person per year.
3) These Oils Contain Significant Amounts of Omega-6 Fatty Acids
Industrial seed oils are mono- and polyunsaturated oils that are high in omega-6 fatty acids, including linoleic acid, which cause inflammation in the body. These molecules can contribute to autoimmune diseases.
4) Omega-6 Causes Oxidative Stress and Cancer
Omega-6 fatty acids create many health issues in the body, including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and genetic damage. These dysfunctions can then lead to cancer tumor growth, with a possible 400% increase in cancer.
5) Vegetable Oils Are a Factor for Early Mortality
One seven-year study found that vegetable oils in the diet leads to a 62% increased risk of all-cause mortality, higher than the death risk from heavy smoking or obesity.
6) Consuming Vegetable Oils Destroys the Heart
Recent findings show that consuming vegetable oils like corn oil and margarine increases risk of a heart attack by 86%, even though vegetable oil consumers may have lower cholesterol levels.
7) Vegetable Oils Increase Cardiovascular Death Risk by 700%
A study called the "margarine" study found that vegetable oils increase the risk of a stroke, heart attack, or cardiovascular death by 700% versus people who consume more heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
